A bellringer hits the death toll. The sculpture  stands out by its immense mechanism of gearwheels. On the one hand it serves with its double transmission into slowness the reduction of the number of revs of the crank. So the sounds of the bell are interrupted by longer breaks. On the other hand the mechanism can be seen as a symbol of life.

The bellringer has a hunchback - like Quasimodo, the bellringer of Notre Dame. He wears a pointed hat and looks like a Venetian carnival figure.
