Le Boîte secrète de
Nevers - Brothel of Nevers
Edition Genoveva, Berlin, reprint
1974
Size: 21 x 4.4 x 19 cm
The clients are running upstairs from the street into the salon on the
first floor. They are glued on a conveyor belt from paper which runs over
two rollers, the lower one is moved by a crank.
It's a section model of a brothel which looks like a doll's house. The clients
can be identified as notabilities of the town. The mayor has wrapped the
tricolour round his body. While the ladies are presenting themselves in the
salon the owners of the brothel are sitting aside, reading the newspapers
or the balances. So the model expresses a critical view of the double moral
standards of these ancient days. The original was first published in 1904.
