Sand power

A ship's carpenter moves the axe, a fishing boat rocks on the waves.

Falling sand moves a paddlewheel. A cogwheel and a cam are fastened on its shaft. The cam raises and lowers a lever which is glued on the same shaft as the carpenter's arm. So the rotation is transformed into the oscillating movement of the arm. The cogwheel moves a cam which causes the oscillating movement of the fishing boat.
