By a friction wheel drive the direction of movement is changed by 90°. If the driving and the driven wheel have different diameters the number of revolutions can be changed too.The input shaft is lying horizontally, the driving wheel is attached to it. On the driving wheel lies the driven wheel with the vertical standing output shaft. The weight of driven wheel, shaft and driven figure causes a friction between the wheels. This friction allows a transfer of motion.

A friction wheel drive can be constructed very easily. Because the transfer of motion is based on friction, only small forces can be transfered.
